Securing Spoke Guards to Wheelchairs

Securing Spoke Guards to Wheelchairs.

When I look at the number of suppliers of spoke guards, wheel cover, spoke protectors, whatever you wish to call them, by far the majority of suppliers use cable ties when securing spoke guards to the wheels. This is undoubtedly the most permanent way of securing spoke guards. It also means that there has to be holes in the spoke guard, and by definition, holes in the design on the front, that is of course unless plain black, plain white or clear spoke guards are fitted.

We, at SpokeGuards have changed the tradition slightly by offering a different way of securing spoke guards, a way which does involve drilling holes in the design on the front of the spoke guard. We wanted a way in which the spoke guards could easily be removed and would not have to have holes drilled in the design.

These images shows the clips and bands we use, as a way of securing spoke guards. These are injection moulded clips and use bands stretched around a number of spokes on the wheel which allows the best place to position the spokeguard on the wheel. The advantage of using this method of securing spoke guards is that the design on the front is not defaced with drilled holes. Furthermore, by removing the bands, the spoke guard can be removed from the wheel in total and so easing any potential scratching for example, in the back of a car. The disadvantage is the bands will perish over time and will need to be replaced from time to time depending on weather conditions, how often the wheelchair is outside etc.

Whichever method of securing spoke guards you prefer, we at SpokeGuards can supply it.

If you have a favourite character, image or photograph that you would like to see displayed on the side of your wheelchair, please contact SpokeGuards for a mock up just exactly how they would look. Call 07 584 207 019 and ask for Frank.
