Disability Darts World Cup

Congratulations are in order to Ricky Chilton, captain of the Wales team, who won double Silver at this year’s World Disability Darts Association (WDDA) Winmau World Cup in Belgium. Ricky personally won Silver in the singles (wheelchair) and captained Wales to Silver in the team event.

The World Cup took place in Ostend, Belgium from 22nd to 24th February 2019 with 67 players competing individually and in teams from Belgium, Denmark, England, Germany, Netherlands, Russia and South Africa plus two additional teams representing Europe and the Rest of the World. This was the inaugural Disability Darts World Cup and proved a huge success with the next one to be held in 2021.

Disability Darts also received a huge boost when it was announced that the inaugural European Championships Paradarts for national teams and individuals will be held in The Hague in May 2020 on the opening weekend of the Invictus Games. The European Championship Paradarts is a tournament organised in cooperation with the Invictus Games and will be one of the side events which the Municipality of The Hague will organise around the games.

Further congratulations are due to Ricky as in April 2019, he received the Local Heroes Sporting Achievement award from Pirate FM in his home county of Cornwall. Living in St Ives, Ricky was a rising rugby and football star as a teenager, when he was given a devastating cancer diagnosis.

He fought back.

In his thirties, and by then a promising darts player, complications left him with one leg.

Ricky fought back.

Now in his forties, this inspirational sportsman has won major championships through the World Disability Darts Association, including the inaugural WDDA Winmau World Masters Championships and WDDA Winmau Classic Open.

Ricky contacted SpokeGuards and ordered a pair of spoke guards with the flag of Wales and the country name to display his patriotism. You can watch Ricky win his semi-final at
