Small spoke guards for powered wheelchairs.
As you can see from many web sites, the majority of spoke guards supplied by any manufacturer are for manual wheelchairs. Ours are 18” (450mm) diameter, slightly convex so they stand a little proud of the wheel. However, how many powered wheelchairs have you seen with spoke guards?
All of our designs can be supplied as a Standard Format version with the 4” (100mm) hole in the middle or as the Full Cover version, without a hole in the centre, but supplied with an additional ‘doughnut’ for the full cover to fix to. This again is designed so the full cover can be easily removed so the wheel can be removed from the wheelchair. But what about powered wheelchairs with much smaller wheels? Obviously the 18” wheel trim does not fit these!
Do not despair, there is an answer. The photograph shows a recently ordered pair of Chelsea FC small spoke guards, next to a standard pair of Liverpool FC covers. (Will the 2018/19 Premiership champions be one of these?).
The small spoke guards are 8½” (220mm) diameter and are flat and are held in place on the small wheel by pairs of Velcro type pads bonded to the wheel and the back of the spoke guards. However, a word of warning: the design of wheels on powered wheelchairs is even greater than the types of wheel on manual wheelchairs. The wheels in the photo are ideal for these small spoke guards, as they are almost flat and have five spokes coming from the central hub. More than enough to secure the Velcro like pads.
Whichever size of spoke guards you prefer, we at SpokeGuards can supply it. Whether is it standard fitting, full cover version or small spoke guards, just call us and ask.
If you have a favourite character, image or photograph that you would like to see displayed on the side of your wheelchair, please contact SpokeGuards for a mock up just exactly how they would look. Call 07 584 207 019 and ask for Frank.
